GitUI is a keyboard-driven terminal interface for Git. It supports
staging, commits, diffs, history, branches, stashes, and remote
operations.
Building requires rust-opt (Rust 1.88 or newer). Cargo uses the supplied
vendor archive and Cargo.lock without downloading dependencies. Rust is
not needed to run the built program. The build uses Slackware's OpenSSL
rather than compiling a private copy.
Release builds can take time and memory. The script uses two build jobs
by default; set CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=1 to reduce parallelism if necessary.
Run "gitui" as your normal user inside a Git repository. Configuration
is stored in ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-~/.config}/gitui/. See KEY_CONFIG.md and
THEMES.md in /usr/doc/gitui-0.28.1/ for customization. An example
Vim-style key configuration is included there.
For HTTPS remote access, configure Git's credential.helper explicitly.
SSH access uses your existing SSH credentials. Never run GitUI as root
to configure or use your personal repositories.
